Comet Lee Images
I really enjoyed getting these images of Comet Lee.  It is really a typical comet.  Nice coma.  Bright enough for amateur scopes, but not bright enough to see with the unaided eye.

Scope:  8" LX 200 SCT
MX - 5C CCD
This was my first image of Comet Lee.  Both images are from the same MX-5C image.  The top image is normal processing and the bottom image was false color processed to better highlight the coma.

Exposure:  240 sec
Scope:  8" LX 200 SCT

Focal Ratio:  f4
Exposure:  Five 30 sec images
This is a composite of five images taken on 3 Oct 99.   At this time, Comet Lee was moving so fast that exposures over 30 sec started to streak.   In this image, I've added the five exposures together by registering on the comet.  This caused the stars to form trails.

Comet Lee had slowed considerably in its apparent motion when these exposures were taken and I was able to use two minute exposures.  However, there is some elongation of the nucleus caused by the two minute exposure.

Scope:  8" LX 200 SCT
MX-5C CCD
Focal Ratio:  f10
Exposure:  26 min combined (13 two min exposures)

This is the last image I captured of Comet Lee.  At this point in time Comet Lee's apparent motion had slowed considerably.  This allowed a long exposure to capture the comet (Magnitude probably greater than16 based upon a comparison with other stars in the image)

On 22 and 30 Oct 99 I obtained a series of images of Comet Lee and have converted them into GIF animation.  Click on the links to the left to see them.  Note that the file sizes are pretty large for the full size animations.   There is a choice of a smaller file size if you want.  The smaller file contains the same animation.  I've just made the image smaller so the file size would be smaller.   Of course the large file shows the comet the best.
