Demos Image Explained | |
|
The
top image is my un-retouched composite. It shows the Mars image
(exposure 0.005 sec) blended with that of the longer exposure (ten 2 sec
images combined). You can clearly see Demos and several background
stars. The halo is caused by blending the highly over exposed image
of Mars on the longer exposed image through a Gaussian blur mask.
This is what I painted out in the touched up image.

For the middle image I've super imposed my un-retouched image over the star background from the STScI Digitized Sky Survey Catalog. There are many more background stars in this image, but I've carefully aligned the stars I captured in my image with the corresponding stars in the catalog image. Note that there is a star behind Mars.
The bottom image is just the background star image from the Digitized Sky Survey Catalog. I've left the blue arrow which was pointing at Demos in my image. The arrow is pointing at a blank space, so what ever is showing in my image, it is not a background star. Since it 's in the correct position for Demos, I'm taking credit for Demos
