This image was taken at the prime focus of my 8" f10 LX 200.    The image is a composite of one 20 minute, one 5 minute and one 2 minute exposures autoguided with the STAR 2000.  They were first color converted with the Starlight Express Pixcolm5 software, combined in MaxIm DL and then further processed  in Photoshop.   Total exposure is 27 minutes.   This image is a good example of what happens when you attempt to image galaxies under skies that have a bright background.  NGC 4394 is listed at magnitude 10.8, so it should have been clearly visible, yet the galaxy is just barely visible.  This happened because the bright sky background  covered the dimmer galaxy and there was no way to separate the light from the galaxy from that of the bright background.  I was able to use contrast stretching techniques to make M-85 visible.  Click here to go back.
