Moon Mosaic Animation Feb 01
This is a small animation that shows the stitching process.  I have re-sampled the full size image (12x22 inch @ 127.5 pixels per cm) down to one or reasonable size for downloading (2 x 4 inches @ 60 pixels per cm).   All together over 50 MX-5C images were stitched together to make the final image.  I used Photoshop for the stitching process.  Each individual MX-5C image was loaded as a layer into the Photoshop image.  The image was positioned to match lunar features.  Each image was then adjusted for color balance and contrast to get a good match.  For me it seems impossible to get a perfect match.  At f30 and with the poor seeing conditions present when I took the images I discovered that overlapping areas showed the lunar features to be slightly different in size in two adjacent images.  Color synthesis and contrast also varies slightly from image to image.  Finally, at f30 it is very easy to miss a small section of the moon.

As you watch the animation you will notice that irregular shapes are covered as the individual images are displayed.  This is cause by the images overlapping.  In each case I stitched in a full MX-5C image.  Some of the images of the terminator and were also nearly black.  This makes the animation look a little jumpy.
