This image was taken using the Meade f3.3 focal reducer and the 30 mm extender ring on my 8" f10 LX 200.    Using this combination results in a focal ratio of about f3.3.   The image is a composite of five individual 10 minute exposure images.  They were first color converted with the Starlight Xpress STAR 2000 software, added with MaxImDL software and then further processed  in  Photoshop.   Total exposure is 50 minutes.   I left the background light in this image so you can see the dim (> magnitude 15 galaxies).  These galaxies appear in this image as dim fuzzy stars.  There are at least 10 galaxies in addition to NGC 1087.   If you compare this image to the Megastar screen capture  you'll see that one of the stars  (down and to the left of the galaxy) I imaged appears to be in the same position as Quasar 0243-007.  Megastar list this Quasar as magnitude 19.2, so I doubt that I've imaged it.  This must be some star not on the Megastar display.  My doubts are strengthened by the fact that I did not capture the second Quasar which is listed at magnitude 18.8.  Click here to go back.
