This image was an experiment to see if the STAR 2000 could guide the LX 200 at a focal to diameter ratio of f30.  The image was very unstable, so guidance was not very good.  DX & DY values were often greater than three, but with some creative processing I've been able to salvage an image.   The brightest moon was Titania at magnitude 13.9.   Oberon, and Umbriel were between magnitude 14.1 and 15.0.    Miranda and Ariel were probably lost in the glare of the planet.  The image is a composite of the two original images.  The three second exposure was processed to show the planet and the 20 minute exposure processed to show the moons.  The images were combined in Photoshop.   Capturing the moons was not easy.  The unsteady atmosphere just did not allow the image to integrate.   A very strong maximum entropy deconvolution plus some artistic retouching was needed to finalize the image.  Click here to go back.
